No longer a student

Being a medical student and a doctor is definitely a big jump. ...leap, even. The one thing that makes all the difference ,..... Responsibility. Gone are the days when we can just fold our arms and watch from a safe distance as all the drama unfolds in the ward.

When i was a student, i would be excited at the prospect of exciting ( usually complicated ) cases ,like impending eclampsia, as there is ample to learn from and ideal for case reports. Now.... I pray.. and pray some more ...often having to stay awake the whole night watching her BP.. because if anything happens, its my head on the chopping board. RESPONSIBILITY ..... what a powerful word.

The most important things we must have as a student are yr Oxford handbook ( or any pocket references) , loads of paper to write yr long winded history and yum cha buddies , for our extremely often and long breaks.

As a doctor, I cant live a day without my pens and my phone. Even food and sleep take a back seat in priority.I am basically a reporter and will just scribble what my seniors say.... regardless if it makes sense to me or not. The phone is for all those nurses and fellow doctors to call you at ungodly hours to ask you to review a bloody CTG. Of course , I make calls all day too... to inform my MO of complicated cases etc..etc..
Pocket reference, ... time is so short, I hardly even have time to think.
Yum cha??.... you can forget about it...

I know i am just raving... maybe its because I am in O&G. It used to be my favorite subject, but now, I just cant wait to get out. Peads is next... and I heard its paradise ... I cant wait..haha,,

I haven had the chance to take photos of Terengganu... ( i know i'm being lazy) ... but i hope to do it soon as it has great potential for lovely shots with its beautiful beaches.

I know what you are thinking....Starbucks is probably not the best place to celebrate a birthday, but we needed a place to open till 12 midnight...since Jae ann does not officially becomes 24 years old until midnight :)

But hey,,,... a lil warning. When you open your box of cake to cut it,... they will switch off all the lights and invite everyone....and I mean EVERYONE... including those sitting outside to sing you a birthday song....haha... Wei shung was so embarrassed, he ducked his head, looking for a hole in hide ...haha

Paris

Everyone has a " Place I want to see before I die" list... and Paris was sitting way up there on my list. I guess its the perception i had since i was young that Paris was lovely, posh and very romantic....

What better way to celebrate my birthday .... than in the City of love ....

We hopped on the Eurostar and we were in Paris in 2 hours 15 minutes....now that's quick. It was already night when we reached there and the first thing i wanted to see was the Eiffel tower.

Eiffel tower, being one of the most recognizable monument in the world , is arguable one of the most photograph structure we know. I have seen it dozens of times in photos..... but that did nothing to prepare me when I saw the real thing. All i could utter was " Oh my God...oh my God..."

It was truly amazing.... and apart from leeshien, nothing has taken my breath away like it did. .. No photograph can do justice to this great monument.... you must see it to truly appreciate its splendor

Arc de triomphe

Up next was Arc de triomphe which was only 10 minutes walk away from Eiffel tower. This monument was built my Napoleon to celebrate victory over war and has been the centre of many historical occasions. Its also the starting point of Champs de Elysees which is a straight road which brings you to the Louvre

After seeing all of these, we kind of lost track of time and we frantically running around looking for the metro to catch the last train.... we only had 15 minutes.... die.. Since it was so late, the nearby station was closed so we had to run to the other stations or risk walking 1 hour back to our hotel at 1am....so not funny... Thankfully we caught the train but found out the last train was not until a few hours later.....basket... What a way to celebrate my birthday

Sacre Coeur

The next morning... we started with Sacre Coeur which was built as a dedication to the casualties of one of France's many many wars.... Come to think of it, the French do fight alot, dont they? Hmm... i thought the phrase "Make love, not war " was coined by the French ....

The french not only like to fight with other people but they also like cutting off their king's head... poor King Louise . Hence the French revolution and democracy of france as we know it today. This place Place de la Concorde is were all the citizens will crowd will gather to watch the execution....

Nothre Dame

Nothre dame , which is made popular by the disney movie "Hunchback of Nothre Dame".... apparently its a true story ....

I dint not enter the Louvre..,as i am not a art buff... apart from Mona Lisa, I am lost. The pyramids are very beautiful tho... Those who have read the Da VinCi code will find something to relate to as Dan Brown described it to perfection.

Paris definitely cannot be seen in 2 nights. We were scrambling away and we only managed to see the many monuments and did not have the chance to enter them ( no money actually).... Thankfully the Metro in Paris is really quick and we managed to move around without hassle.

Food wise, PAris is known is the gourmet of the world and if you have money, you can get the best here.... notice the catch "if you have money".... we just made to do with bread and tap water...haha... but do try the cafe Paul. Its quite popular in London as well as their pastries are amazing.

People watching .....so hamsup...

The one thing I noticed in France is not many people can speak english and they like people watching... Just look at the cafes... Considering the very fashion conscious ladies ( read: very sexy and gorgeous ) in Paris, it seems obvious,... :)

Many people told me Paris is overrated. To a certain extend, I agree. Not that I did not had fun, i had a blast. But Paris will only be enjoyed to its capacity if you are not a struggling student , or jobless houseman. Its filled with great art for those who appreciate them, a huge Louise Vuitton for those who can afford, depth of historyfor those who are interested ....

and have a little more money to spend than on bread and water :p

But the fact is this...... Paris is very ,..very ,..romantic....

London...

What an amazing city... Spending about 5 weeks here, you just have to fall in love with this place.

Its underground is just great and its really easy to get around the city but its rather expensive. Unlike some tubes in certain countries ( ahem) which is totally useless....

But at night, it really comes alive with its many beautiful buildings and monuments....The night life is also happening , as you will see pubs full of people drinking and clubbing and girls dress sexy but sometimes absurd...

The eye of London, Big ben , westminister... its all here ..lovely

In the day, from the hills of Greenwich , there is an amazing view of the city as well as seeing where the latitude is 0 degrees...

I am going to miss this place. Sadly, all good things must come to an end.

Oxford... the land of smart @sses

Oxford....

The first thing that comes to mind is my trusty , life saving ( mine and the patients) ....Oxford Clinical Medicine....

Oxford is basically , a small town, with a lot of colleges. 36 of them to be precise . Therefore, the main tourist attraction is to see all 36 of them....well... at least we tried.

So off we went... Rosalyn, Evelyn, Aaron, leeshien and I...to oxford, which is just 1 hour train ride from London.

Walking around, we were surrounded with old old buildings , of which many are colleges and young young people, of whom many are students.

Almost every college has lovely grounds with a beautiful garden. The more famous ones , like Trinity, Christ Church and Lady Margaret have huge gardens ( size of fields actually ) .... must be the "I am more famous and better that you " rivalry between the 36 colleges.

We also went punting ( sampan rowing in Malaysia) ... along the river which connects the colleges. We get to see all the backside of many colleges..... hmmm...
It was expensive , ... 5 pounds a person for a 20 minute sampan ride...

I do realize that the eateries are mostly packed at all times ... because there is absolutely nothing else to do in Oxford except chilling out with a meal....
No shopping center, no cinema, no musicals, ....no wonder their students are so smart. There are absolutely no distractions....

After awhile.... I started to get bored. How many colleges and gardens can one see in a day??... surely not all 36!!

Students were giving us " What the heck is so interesting about my Uni" look.....

and I was having a " Why the heck am I so stupid and cannot study here" look....

English ....and "M"anglish

Before I came, I thought my English was passable... .
Heck... it is my mother tongue, and I watch a lot of western movies....
So how difficult can it be to understand the British? ....
Well... its quite difficult actually.

First of all... you have to get through their accent.... (well... considering English comes from England, we are the ones with accents, not them. ) which needs getting used to...

then, the cultural difference. The same words can mean different things here...
These are a few examples..

Are you alright ?

The first day i came, when I greeted anyone, they will always reply "Are you alright?" I was thinking to my self... did i look awful , or sick? ....why is everyone asking if I was alright?

In London , "Are you aright?" usually means "How are you?" , which is what we are used to in Malaysia...

Flip flops

One of leeshien's house mate, told us she was wearing flip flops with a dress to a wedding. We were shocked..

Minced meat pie

I was naughty last night ( usually said by a female)

Malaysia : I had sex last night, that's why I was late for work
London : I had an extra glass of wine and slept night....

I was really shocked when one of leeshien's church mate said it when the pastor asked her why did she looked tired at church.

Guess being naughty in London.....is alright...

Monaco

Monaco is just 45 minutes away from Nice, and 20 minutes by train so we made a day trip there. Compared to Nice, Monaco is more posh. There are more Ferraris and Bentley and less cafes around. Shopping here is heaven , if you have the money as all luxury brands are everywhere

Monaco is an independent state, rule by its royal family, so its not actually part of France. You dont need a passport tho.... hmm...

Monaco is just buzzing with people..... rich people...

Most of the time, people go to Monaco for 3 reasons.

I did not enter the casino as there is an entry fee of 10 euro, so we did not bother... Haven go in also loose money already.... damn sui,...

Hotel De Paris

Of course when all the rich and famous are here to gamble, the Hotels must be top notch. This is Hotel De Paris. All the film stars, ministers and Royal families stay here when there are here :) A staff of the place actually told me there are some Malaysian ministers who come here to ....ahem... visit the casino...

Starting line for Monaco F1

I have never been to Sepang, but at least I can say I have been to the Monaco F1 circuit. I was even on the track....haha... That's because Monaco 's F1 track is actually on the streets... .. the tarmac must be of great quality tho it looks rather ordinary to me to be a race track.

Our final stop was the Royal Palace of Prince Monaco.

Its way up in the hill so there is a bit of walking to do, but once there, the view is splendid. Save your money on the entrance to the palace tho as I felt its a total waste of money. Its around 9 Euro, and you only get to see a small section of the palace in about 30 minutes ( and no pictures allowed..darn)

Save your money and just walk about the palace grounds outside as its really beautiful

Nice ...part 2

In Nice, the is a place called Castle Hill. Its suppose to be some historical place where a castle stood as a defense line for France . It was however destroyed ....

Its now a tourist attraction as it offers a splendid view of Nice and its beaches.

And the view did not disappoint . We had quite a distance to climb a hill, but once on top, it just takes your breath away.

If you look closely, you can see a rainbow behind us...

Up next ....Lunch...

First of all, the first thing yo have got to do before you dine is to forget about our miserable conversion rate. Even a simple lunch in a cafe cost like Shangri La .
To stretch the Euro to the max... we went online the day before to scout the most recommended once to ensure we dont pay so much for so so food...

The lunch we had here was pretty good... and was fairly affordable . We meet some tourist from Scotland as well, and it was great just chatting. The locals looked amused when I took a picture of the food...saying they have never seen anyone took a picture of their food before. .

Lee shien was just drooling ....but not at the food but the French waiters. I do admit.... they look like the cover mag of GQ..

Nice is a easy place to travel by yourself. Almost everything is within walking distance. Lee shien was awesome with the map... finding all the small restaurants in obscure locations. A highly recommended if you just want to relax and enjoy sightseeing

Nice .....part 1

Nice... (pronounce as niece ) is the southern part of France along the coast line so its has really beautiful beaches.

Leeshien did a good job booking this trip as it was super super last minute. She booked it just few days before the trip. We each paid 150 pounds for a 3d/2n which
included the airline ticket and a 3 star hotel.

The weather there was beautiful. Its really sunny with temperatures around 25 degrees. Fantastic....

Nice is a place where alot of people go to relax. Its rather small and slow pace. You will see alot of elderly people walking about , sipping espresso and just basking in the sun. Of course there were quite a few younger ones in the beach, sun bathing topless..... ( no i dint peak...haha)

Walk like a French, chest up , chin lift, tummy in....

The other main attraction is the old town. Here lies the town which is beautifully preserved despite the modern development surrounding it. The buildings are old but beautifully done, and gives the sense of peace and cosiness, away from its more modern sibling . There are loads of cafe around you need not worry about finding food..... its more like finding affordable food.

There was this ice cream which is always mentioned in all the travel websites. So we just have try it. Its called Fenocchio and it has 86 flavours ....which some are rather odd....We tried cookies and cream, lavender and cactus.... yes cactus..

It taste odd, but leeshien polished it off rather quickly....well.. it least i know what cactus taste like.

Old Trafffod.... an experience

Man Utd 2- Chelsea 0.....

No ... i am not going to talk about the match or the results....

Its just that ...looking at the replays of the match, i cant help feeling that I was just there at the stadium yesterday....haha... ( when its empty of course)

Lee shien and I went over to see a few of the IMU guys who were in Manchester just for an over night trip and of course, no trip to Manchester is complete without checking out Old Trafford

I cant help feeling like i am living a dream..... its not like I am a hard core Man u fan but, seeing it countless times on TV and reading about the team in the newspapers, its just great to see it with my own eyes.

The tour and museum set us back 10 pounds each but it was worth it. We started off with a jolly tour guide who is a hard core fan telling us a brief history of man utd and bashing up other teams in the process ( there is the man u vs Chelsea match the next day after all)

Then he took us to various part of the whole stadium, VIP boxes, dug out, pitch and so on...

The place which really was cool was the players loundge and changing room...

This is because these were the very rooms the players sat, ate and where Sir Alex Ferguson famously kicked a boot into David Beckham's eye.....

Over all... its was a fantastic experience and worth every pound..... now if only I had tickets to the Man u vs Chelsea match....

Hatyai...thailand..

I just got back from Hatyai, which is a small town in Thailand. When people go to Thailand they may go for what ever reasons.... food, tiger show, female company etc..etc...

But Hatyai.... there are only 2 things worth going for...

The food.. and the Spa...

If those of you who have never been to Hatyai... its a little of Batu pahat and Chow Kitt. The buildings and roads are similar to a small town like BP but its as filled with people and cars like chow kitt.

People here look realy like malaysians...

I was shocked when I went for lunch for my first meal, and this lady ask me " Cant you speak cantonese? " in cantonese.... I was like ..."what the... I did cross the border rite?? "

Apparently, as its so close to Penang, it has very strong Malaysian cultures.

The smallest pineapple in the world..... but taste heavenly

Tourist police ( see under the number 1155) .... glad to know we meant so much to them..

The only difference is Hatyai girls are much much prettier... look left, look right, look anywhere also there will be a not bad looking girl around. But they look very similar.. .. They all have long Sunsilk hair, with sharp nose and SLIM bodies. I tell you... I have not seen a big size young adult in the 3 days i was there. Ant the thing is... they look so Chinese... ..

Its almost like during the world war, all the beautiful penang girls ran to Hatyai and settle down there..

Hotel I stayed was not bad...

Its good to know they thought of our well being really well...

Up next was the Spa... I opted for the aromatherapy massage.. and man was I in for a surprise...

They first gave me a robe and told me to changed into it, and passed me a paper thin, almost transparent underwear. I must have gave her a shocked look as she then told me " Dont worry.. its free size".... duh...

Apart from the initial apprehension , the massage was good. After 2 hours, i felt my muscles relaxed , and on cloud 9

I then rewarded my self with a punishing 2 hours swim...... Rm 100 massage down the drain...haha

I could not help laughing at the second line of "what to avoid"....

Damn...

Family dinner..

These days, family dinner has been few and far in between. Its either someone is having exams ( usually me) or cant take time off from work..

So...It was really great to see so many of you all again this time....

This dinner was meant as a farewell dinner for Jinn who has gone to the UK for her post graduate studies, and a few of us who have just graduated.

This is one of the biggest restaurant in JB.... Looks great, overpriced , good food and a very very loud karaoke machine.... perfect...

Malacca ...part 2

After all that walking and eating, we needed a break. Jill took us to a chill out place ( strangely, we were the only customers) to have tea.

Royale Havana.... cool name for a coffee,,

This cafe sells one of the yummiest cheese cake... which is different from the usual Secret Recipe, which taste very commercialise. This one taste home made.... and the coffee was not too bad.

Finally dinner.... We went to Jill's grandparents home.... well... at least they used to stay there.., until the sold it to this seafood restaurant.

Even plain rice will taste lovely with the smell of sea salt and the cool breeze brushing against your hair...

Looking back..it was a great day ...filled with great food and awesome friends... Thanks for being a tour guide for the day Jill... Till we see again....

Malacca PArt 1

I visit malacca an average of once a year, since my mom is from there. There is only one reason to go there in my opinion. No... its not the historical sights, the beach , or the lovely sungai

Its so clean, I am sure the malacca folks are really ceria

So, the main reason.... FOOD.... U cant go wrong in malacca... its simply to die for
While my family will always have a fix place to go ( differs from each uncle) , it will be cool to see where Jill thinks is the best place to satisfy my palate...

So off we went... with growling stomachs to find the best food in malacca..

Outside the nyonya restaurant.... I cant read Chinese so I dont know the name of it ... :)

The first place we went was Nyonya food. Its new to me as if I have never tasted nyonya cuisine before. I was plesantly surprise to discover this fusion of malay and Chinese food which runs deep in our history and tradition. It taste almost like Malay dishes but its not as spicy which is welcoming...really..

Kai-fan.. If you ask me, chicken rice in loose form, ball shape, rectangle, square, oval... ALL TASTE THE SAME...

Its no surprise we did not want to fill our stomach with food we can find in KL ( take glue and make the rice in to a ball yourself) ...

however Emily decided other wise ( we felt our balls squeezed.... and its not the chicken balls) . Thankfully, we went ahead as the chicken was done just right.... Definitely one of the best kai fan I have tasted.

After 2 lunches, it was time for dessert. Jill took us to a place called Lemon lemon cafe which sells an absolutely wicked Durian blended shake

I must give credit to wei shung for this shot as its his idea..... fuyoh...

This place is rather unique, which displays rather odd things... like semi nude ladies...

It was so "hot"... eric started sweating..haha..

Up next... was just walking around Jonker Street.. These small shops have so much to offer and definitely different from those Louise Vuitton we find here. So the girls went crazy...

And the guys... well... doing what we do best, ... Wait..

Looks like malacca's massage is so stimulating it will make you breathless as it comes with oxygen..... and its only RM 9.99....... Thailand... Beat that !!

Its the 7th month in the Chinese calender so its the ghost festival. My neighbours have started lighting candles and offerings along the roads and its fun to see small kids playing around the candles while the adults are setting up.

If you guys haven noticed by now,... johor bahru always have their own way of doing things. If KL's wantan mee is black, JB's is white. Kl drivers are saints.... JB drivers are insane.... U get point.

So here is how we johorians celebrate ghost festival.... the JB way of course...

Made the trip back there today with emily because she had to shift her stuff out of BP... Knowing that she has loads of rubbish in her room, I was secretly wandering how she was going to do it without a lorry. Well... that was until she showed up in this

Most car companies will go for some cool names like Impulz, Imprezza, ....but no...Nissan choose to call their flagship mpv....,..IMPUL...... whatever that means

It even comes with a sun roof... lifestyle, I would say..

But before we started the hard manual labour.... we went back to Kofu. Man... i have been missing this place, and I was only gone less than 3 weeks...

I only knew him better in sem 10. A real sport and 80% Chinese. Have a real talent of presenting things. If u need an MC, or someone to make a speech, look no further. The rides from KL-BP-KL were crazy...

Few years ago, I used to kena her all the time. Now, she has advance so much in crap talking ... its her turn to kena me. What you see is what you get. She will not lie , manipulate or cheat you. If i can summarize her in one word, it will be trust. There are very few people i trust more than her.... that's until she drives...haha

The reason I put them together is because they are always together :) Great bunch of people to talk to. Will always remember the elective with Sha in JB...it was loads of fun..

A nice girl, who has a deep passion for Jesus. My prediction = future pastor . Great hangout buddy, but has mature alot over the years. No so lame and naive anymore. Wil always remember her many hairstyles in bukit jalil. Nice sense of fashion..

Wrapping it up ... My 5 years ( part 1)

5 years have finally came to an end. Some say it was a long time, some felt the time just flew by.
Many friends were made, many events have occur, some were joyfull, some were sad...
There are just the few things,events or people in my 5 years that I will always remember.

1) Friday music night....

Till today, I still shudder at the thought of that night. I screwed up badly, letting my band mates down. What more....we were the freshies in sem 1...
Made up for it in Sem 3 with Jill leading us.... that was fun...

2) Semester 2 CF camp

I think most of my friends knew me as the good, nice quiet boy in sem 1, until that camp. That camp was the turning moment for me... that was where I started talking shit... that was were my circle of friends grew

3) Studying in the library during study breaks

Say what u want... there are no "breaks" in study break ( unless u are talking about yr brain and spirit) Am in the library from 9am till 10 pm....so not funny... Having emily , shung, savio, ian and the rest made it easier

4) Orientation.... ragging have never been this fun... that's if u are a senior...haha... I had a great orientation in Sem 1, and having a blast as an OO( orientation officer) in sem 3 and 5. IMCC champion, sketch champion... but most of all... the friendship with the juniors.

5) Results day, Sem 10 , when everyone was wishing everyone. I have never shake hands/ hug so many doctors in 1 day in my life

Finally, we have made it. All 5 years.

Yesterday was result day so we were all in Seremban for one last hooray. All 5 years, Rm250 000 , were all boiled down to this very moment..... its make or break...

For the purpose of this entry, I shall call all my friends "Doctor".... so they kembang a bit...haha... but only for this entry.... :)

Tachycardia, cold hand sweaty palms, agitation, drowsiness , shortness of breath. No, we were not in shock, just waiting for the results. We waited and waited for 2-3 hours.... so not funny...

The thing about a computer is this. We have become too over dependent on it. Personally , I hate computers because they have a hack of breaking down when i needed it most.....but just like everyone else, I cant live without it.

The story is this. After moving from BP and loading all my stuff in a haphazard , My computer cant start and I needed to print all my portfolios so i can read them.

My computer is buried under there..... a brilliant idea on my part. No wander spoil...

I took my computer to a nearby computer shop and told him my problem. He just try to start it, and remove something ( its the ROM i think) and starting dusting it. I was like " hah... like that also can ?! " And before u know it, my computer started. All in 5 minutes work.

The best part, he charged RM 35 for that 5 minutes job.

Not that I am complaining ... but it it reminds me of job of a doctor. A patient comes with a complain, u look here look there, touch here touch there and give a medication. All in 5 minutes.

A few posts ago, a wrote about how Japanese cars have improved a lot in terms of looks. This next part is about 2 very popular sport car..... all of which were available in Malaysia at some point of time.

Mazda Capella RX2

This car was produce in 1970 and was actually not intended to be a sports car but rather a 4 door, family car. However, what really attracted me to this car was the use of rotary engine. What is rotary engine , u might ask... Well, in brief, it used rotor ( goes round and round), instead of piston ( goes up and down) . So for a smaller engine capacity, it can deliver more power hence saving space and using less parts. If you are wandering why this technology is not widely use now, i will not bore you with the details but just to say they are a lot of disadvantages in terms of cost.

However, there is one car available now which still uses this technology..... ...

This sports car manage to combine 2 rotor engines, each of 650cc ( kancil size) making it a 1.3 liter engine.... comparable to my wira. But while my wira can maybe produce 70 horse power, ( i hope) ...... the RX8 gets it going in 230 horse power

For comparison .... 0-100km/h in my wira will take.... well.. .hopefully by christmas, the mazda reaches the turn of the century in just 6.7s.

I left Batu pahat ....... for good. (hopefully) Reading lots of people's blog, everyone seems so emo about leaving batu pahat, yet they complained like nobodies business the whole of 5 months..... I am no exception. I cant deny that i dread going back to BP on sundays, and wandering how on earth my weekend evaporated just like that...... yet when the curtain closes, i cant help but feel ...emo... Looking back, i know i am going to miss tho times in BP.... So these are the things i will always remember... both good and bad..

1) The hospital

Batu pahat hospital is actually a nice place to work. Nice doctors ( pretty ones included) , friendly specialist ( non with big egos). Its walking distance to where i stayed. Cost effective too..

2) The dinners

Where to eat? Where are we going ? These are the common conversations in the car. Some how we always end up in tea station, papazi...etc etc.. Dinners will always cost an average of 10 bucks and last for one and a half hours. By far the happiest time of my day....

3) Getting my 5 deliveries

After worrying and all the stress, it was great to finally get it off my back. A euphoric moment

4) The trip back to KL and back to BP

When u put 5 people in a cram place for 3-4 hours , its amazing how much crap can we can talk. Mostly its all ham sap jokes.... thanks to VJ and gene.... haha... or was it me...

5) Kofu...

My daily hang out for almost 2 -3 months. Apart from jeniffer lopez, no one have better buns than them....

6) The time when emily and shung educated me about imu politics for 2 days straight...... realize how ignorant i have been....well.... they did say ignorant is bliss

7) The first time i saw my house in BP, .... depression set it...

8) How emily stump me for the 10th time ... or was it 9th :p

9) The first operation i assisted

10) My blankey sharing buddies.. ( bang bang, jiggle my wiggle, durian, gay jokes, tembeling tembeling , hidden camera while we talk shit, asthma attack ,dim sum in cheras, etc etc...)

The latest Harry Potter book was released today. I must say, this must be one of the most anticipated book of all time. I turned on the news this morning and guess what was the first think i saw?

People from various part of the world lining up in the rain to buy the book outside book stores . Everybody wants to be the first one to read it and brag to their friends telling them who died in the book ( yes ... someone died) . I even saw someone cried because she finally got a book. In Australia, a man had to be rescued from a freezing lake after jumping in to retrieve his receipt for a pre-ordered book

Crazy,, if you ask me.... Closer to home, read in the papers that MPH,BOARDERS and other giant book stores are not selling the book because Carrefour is selling the book much much cheaper than them. ( RM 69 vs RM 109) ..Aiseh...So if you want one,head on to carrefour :)

Its similar in London. One bookstore is selling the book for 5 pounds, so... his rival lowered the price by 1 penny..... yes... that's 7 cents....duh..

Hard to believe so many people can get so work up for a story about little Harry waving his lil' magic stick around town..

On the other hand... I have read all 6 books...haha.. and i must say, they are really good, despite being a children's book. Frankly... i cant wait to read the final book ..haha..( yes, i am also kiasu)

I cant help but marvel at the progress of Japanese cars in terms of looks.

U cant deny that the current honda accord looks great.But come 10 years from now, it will only look ,....well.... old. Here are couple of photos of the progress of one of my favorite car. Honda Accord.

No, this is not it..

In Malaysia, everybody wants an ah beng car... with really loud ( annoying really) exhaust and sometimes neon light fitted on their beloved wira/waja. Sometimes they will have the modified gears ( the ones that sound like someone farted when the gear is changed)

The think is this. All of they "think" they cars are fast and they bully poor old kancils on the road..... .. They my friends, need a leasson....

Introducing the new Mitsubisthi Lancer Evo X ...... the ultimate BENG Mobile....

Its powered by a turbocharger 2.0L engine, producing 300HP.. Okay.... just go to yr kitchen , and take out yr 2 liter carton of milk. Just imagine, these Japanese can make an engine that size which moves a car from 0-100km/h in just 4.7 seconds.....

But then, just because it looks like a ah beng car does not mean its cheap. The previous model is selling for RM 290 000 .... so its not for the faint hearted. Speed can be expensive...

If one of those ah beng wannabe decides to challenge you on the road, ..... just floor your accelerator, and all you see is a tiny dot in your rear view mirror...

I dont usually like to blog about by work in Uni... but I will make an exception for today.

Today, I finally, after 5 years ( minus 2 weeks) in medical school, assisted in an operation.
Todays operation was an LSCS ( Cesarean section) for a footling breech. And the specialist was from Klang and she was very very nice to me. Looking back, i was very nervous and made alot of silly mistakes... This was roughly how it went.

Me : Dr, ah... can i assist you today?
Dr : Sure.. no problem
Me: But ho... I dont really know much ( zero actually)
Dr : Its ok... u dont need to do much.

After scrubbing , I needed someone to help me tie the gown. I went to the nurse, but the specialist did it for me.

Me: Wah.. a specialist help me to tie... I fell so honoured..haha..
Dr : After this u sure want to be an O& G specialist ...haha

The operation then began and she starting cutting up the patient, and I was in charge of swabbing ( using a cloth to clear the blood from the incision site)

Dr : Isaac, swab this area

( I just gently touch the area )

Dr : Eh... U swabbing a wound or cleaning table. Use more force lah...
Me: ehh... sorry ah...

When the baby was going to come out

Dr : Isaac, when i tell you to, move aside so the staff nurse can move in to push the baby

( I then moved aside)

Dr: Not now lah... later...
Me : ehh.. sorry ah
Dr : Why are you still standing away there for? Come back here la..

When the baby was delivered

Dr : Give the baby to the nurse

I was still motionless...

Dr : Aiyoh you ah...Why lah... scared ah...
Me : sorry ah...

She then asked me to be her 1st assistant and help her to suture... Not bad , considering how efficient i was through out the operation. I changed position to be across her. There was a stool there as the houseman who stood there was short. I dont know why, but i just stood on it.

Dr : No need to stand on the stool lah... I know u are shorter than me, want to be taller than me ah?

Me: Opps... Sorry ah.. I have not assisted before so i am a bit nervous. When I graduate, die lo...
Dr : Haha... die lo..

At the final parts of the operation, I finally relaxed and talked a bit with her..

Me: Dr, where are you from
Dr : I am from Cheras .... yulex... do u know it?
Me : walau... I live just 2 minutes drive away..
Dr : Went to watch transformers that day in leisure mall... it was really good. After the movie... i tot i felt my car transform...haha

Its been a while since i last saw jae ann. Think its almost 2 years. The thing is this. After bukit jalil, many of my friends went to Australia and only coming back maybe once a year during the christmas holidays. So everytime they are back...its really great to see them again.

We decided to go to a place call Sasaki which sells fantastic japanese buffet.

This is just one of the many many counters they have....

There were so much food, I made a point to go back again just to try the other half of the food I din't have the stomach to eat. The sushi was fantastic... lovely in presentation and taste. Leeshien would love it. Look at the sushi on the bottom, the one with the black topping. I think its caviar ( the cheepo one lah) ..... talk about neo japanese cuisine

Dont look at jae ann and her petite frame of 50kg, just look at how much she ate that day... walou... dont play play..

Baked cheese oyster. I dint try them as i am not a fan of oysters. Emily polished off 6 of them... siow ...

For around RM 60 for dinner or lunch its really value for money as it not only has quantity, but quality as well. The huge crowd will testify to that.If you patronise it on weekdays, its around RM 45.

While its always great to chill out with jae ann, she will be going back to Australia tomorrow. Hopefully the whole bunch of u guys in Australia will come back this christmas so we can hang out together again.... It will be a blast..

Kampung, no clean water, orong asli, gotong royong, toilet ( hole in ground) , soap ( what soap ?!)

There couple of things are what I have always been afraid. Dont get me wrong, as someone who is going to be a doctor soon ( please God let me pass ) i would really like to give back to the community especially the people in the kampung ,.... something like going for missions in church. The only thing that have been stopping me ...are the things that are listed above.

I know .. I know.. call me spoiled, KL breed whatever... i just cant help it. Even leeshien complains about it. Her idea of a great holiday is backpacking around Europe , staying in budget motels and seeing interesting things. For me, if my accommodation doesn't start with Hil and ends with ton ...I know I will suffer :p

So my brilliant Uni decided that the whole batch will be going for a 2 days 1 night in Simpang 6, somewhere , God knows where, in Batu Pahat. Thinking that I will be a great chance to break my lifestyle life, I was preparing myself mentally for days ( praying actually)

We got up early, and needed to reach uni at 6.30 am. Reaching the clinic at 7 plus, I thought the place was not too bad. I was in charge of counselling....well , that was the only thing I thought I could do well...

It was all good, talking to all the pacik and makcik ( I lost count of the number of times I advised on cutting salt, sugar , fats, ) as they really treat you like a doctor. They respect and look up to us as well as listening to all the crap that I have to say. I really hope I made a difference...

Couple of hours later around 4-5 pm, we had to go to the kampung . This is when all the real fun begins. The roads leading there were bad. It was really narrow and only one vehicle can pass through at one time. If u see a lorry in front of u, u must cut in to the bushes to let it pass.

Once there... I felt i was in secondary school again ( or is it primary school). The kampung people had prepared loads of games ready for us...

Awhile ago, I was in Uni collecting our T shirts for tomorrow's community service in a kampung. I ordered a M size ( i usually wear S) cos loads of girls are ordering S ( surely u cant expect we to wear the same size as the ladies rite ? )

I then found out that M size was actually quite big for me and I look like I am drowning in the shirt.... So I asked if I could change to a S instead. So happen , Gene was beside me, in the same situation as me. This was how our conversation was like

ME : Gene , I want an S

GEne: Me too!! I want an S too...

Me: U dont need an S, u already have one...

Gene : But I want to change to a smaller S...

( Gene then managed to exchange to an S)

( I then took her S and gave her my M )

These days, shops are offering instant ( using computer & printer) and the conventional ( using film). Have you ever wandered how different they will turn out? Well.... i decided to try them both ( dont ask me why ) in both the same shop, same photographer but only 2 weeks apart.

I really cant help but noticing ..... why in the world do i look so different in both? Why do i look like crap !?

.. Fine...fine... I know i am not exactly America's next model material but come on lah.... this is for my phreking job interview to Australia!!

Who the hack is going to hire me looking like that !? I look so garang.... like a terrorist or something.... I can just imagine the conversation in the Australian embassy will go

Officer 1 : Hey mate, come here and take a look at the photo of this guy. Sure looks fierce

doesn't he.

Officer 2 : Oh dearie me, he wants to be a doctor here? Probably going to scare the socks off

our lads. Maybe we should send him to Afghanistan.

I dont mean his good looks....but our phreking scary eyes... like going to kill somebody. Not really the doctor "look" they are looking for , i am guessing.

I am sure u have noticed by now...
I am sure u have tasted it by now...
If u haven... man.. where have you been?

Even in the ulu-iest parts of malaysian which time forgot ( like seremban..) to the ultra hip city of KL , there is now something in common. You guessed it right.....

Like it or not... its everywhere. Quite frankly, i really cant see what the fuzz it about.

Okay, okay... they serve some pretty mean french toast, with its rich peanut butter and over flodding butter ....it brings sinfully delicious to another level....

And their teas are quite alright... BUt apart from that ... its just another over priced place that yuppies like us just cant resist going ( i go an average once a week but only because i have no where else to go ).... But the fact is this. Take a look at it anytime of the day, u will see just how packed it is....

People dont seem to mind paying 3 bucks for a small cup of tea anymore...

With its ever expanding domination on malaysian's young adult....should the ever present "king of hang out place" Starbucks be worried......??

U see... these people at kopitiam have a good game plan.

Give it a retro look and the oldies will come with their grandchildren telling stories of how things have changed and how they used to drink their coffee beside the smelly longkang for the extra flavour....yada ....yada...

And give it a cool ,hip look , with overpriced food, and u are sure yuppies will flog in like ducks to water...

So that brings us to what do we, the young adults , look for as a hang out place....?

is it the calm atmosphere , with the chic interior?

The ladies?

The drinks?

The food?

For me.... all that really matters is the bunch of loonies that i hang out with.

With them... even if i am paying 10 bucks for a cup of coffee, ... or for some cheepo longkang flavoured dimsum.

It will always be fun....

Everyday... millions of blog pop out of no where. It seems like everyone wants to let the whole world know what they are up to, be it which Channel skirt they bought , what new hip eateries they have savoured... u know the works. .. and we wander why celebrities want to hide from the spot light.. bit of paradox shift in life aint it :)

Hmm... so where does that leave me? Frankly, this is the first time i am blogging and never had i imagined i will do it. I dont really have a game plan of where this is heading but the main purpose of this is i want to record my life now, .... my friends, my hangout places and the millions of nonsense that goes through the thing between my ears..
I may write a bout cars, girls ( of yeah ) , fashion,food.. and load of my rants ...

Will see where this can go...
